Introduction
Dialogue with the Islamic-Arab world
One of the main fields of interest for IDF has been the dialogue between the Islamic World and the West. In 1994 a conference was organised on Islamic Revival and the West Common values, common goals. In this conference participated prominent experts like Abdurrahman Wahid, Fahmi Howeidy, Giles Kepel, Jorgen Nielsen, Ahmed Al Dajani and Mehmet Aydin. In 1995 (Istanbul) and in 1998 (Bonn) were organised meetings of the project Open European Youth Parliament, in which participated youth from several European countries (migrant and national) and Muslim countries. In 1997 a conference was organised on The Position of Women in the Islamic and the Western World in Amman.
In 2004 IDF organised in co-operation with some other organisations, series of conferences within the context of the project: Towards a participatory society: a European-Arab dialogue, on the following subjects:

a. Democracy and political participation
b. Participation of women

The aim of the project was to prepare the basis for a platform of scholars, politicians and represtatives of civil society of Arab countries, Europe and the United States to discuss conditions under which participatory democracy and the Middle-East can be fostered.
